With this app, Getxo Town Hall proposes a tour of the Portu Zaharra (Old Port) through the names of its houses, names with meanings that go unnoticed to the uninitiated and which build a true mosaic of the identity and memory of one of the oldest districts in this seaside town.This house-by-house tour of Getxo’s Portu Zaharra is based on the survey entitled Getxoko leku izenak (Getxo, place names) carried out in 2004 by Mikel Gorrotxategi Nieto and Sofía Suso Otxoa de Eribe.The app uses GPS to help users find their way around and locate the houses and it also offers an off-line street plan for people who do not have an Internet connection.The app has the “Health Care” function, enabling users to calculate the distance travelled and the calories they have consumed whilst discovering the houses and learning what their names mean.The app also includes information about the stores and restaurants in the district that helps to make a visit to the Portu Zaharra a truly healthy leisure experience.Content improvements
